Police stated they were notified by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau marked with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.

Law enforcement say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The fluid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Officers then located multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.

City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.

A high-ranking political figure stated the vandalism made him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of foreign heritage in 2020.
