US Vows a Substantial Assistance Package, Issuing a Blunt Warning to the UN.
In a move that pairs generosity with stringent conditions, the United States has pledged $2 billion for United Nations humanitarian programmes. But, this contribution was accompanied by a stark message for the global organization: it must "change or face irrelevance."
A Major Pledge Amid Wider Funding Cuts

"This money will save millions of lives," affirmed the United Nations' relief coordinator. Yet, this amount constitutes just a small portion of the United States' historical contributions, which were estimated at around $17 billion in the recent past.
